Celebrate Independence!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!  I love this holiday for a few reasons. First and foremost because I don’t have to work, and secondly because any holiday that involves eating weiners and watching fireworks is good enough for me!

As some of you know, no one really had much of a yard where I grew up, we had alleys, so barbecues weren’t as prevalent like they are in suburbia, where people invite friends over and do whatever it is that people with yards and grills do. We would either have to go to a park, or in our case, whip out the hibachi grill and get to work on the back porch.

It was a cool porch with the spiral staircase and we used to grill right above the morgue 😀  (the big white doors at the bottom are the doors to the morgue). When we were little, we had one of those small, plastic pools that you fill with a hose and we would sit in the middle of the alley on a hot, Philly day. I’m thinking about getting one now that I could put in my car port. If my building had a pool, which should be required of all Valley apartment buildings, I wouldn’t have to think of such obvious solutions to problems like this. Do you think the neighbors will judge me?

The best part of July 4th is the fireworks! I don’t know what it is about them that we all love so much, but we do and I can’t wait to see them tonight, although I’m not exactly sure yet where I will be seeing them.

I saw something on Facebook today that said Katie Holmes is celebrating Independence Day, meaning she’s been released from her contract of playing the role of Tom Cruise’s beard. The jig is up as they say, or would it be the “gig” is up. After all, that must be some job, with quite a generous pay day. I love gay men and would be happy to play their beard for millions of dollars any day of the week. I wouldn’t go as far as having a baby, but I would more than willing to carry a doll around for awhile and then pay a little kid to play my kid. Is there a place to rent kids?  I’m sure there is. I’ll check Craigslist. Is Suri a rental?

Anyway, I hope all of you have a great holiday as you drink beer, shove weiners in your mouth and hopefully see a magnificent fireworks display! The definition of independence is: free from outside control; not depending on another’s authority. Respect and Celebrate Independence!! 😀

About Death To Hollywood

My name is Celeste Donohue and I am a writer/comedian who started this blog to tell stories about my life growing up in a funeral home and my adult life which I have spent in Hollywood, California – hence the name, “Death To Hollywood”. Hopefully, you like to read those kinds of stories. If not, go read something serious and boring.....

    Happy fourth Celeste!

May the weiners be plentiful and the fireworks bright!

The thing that most tickled me is setting out the hibachi on the porch over the morgue. Delightfully irreverent as always!
