Oscar Contest Giveaway – Day 5

oscar 2013

It’s Friday! So I think it’s safe to assume we’re all happy about that, and we’re getting closer to having a winner to this contest, and the Oscars are in two days. What’s not to be excited about? You know, every year I get excited to watch the Oscars and every year I say the same thing after the show, “That was kind of boring.”

But boring or not, a billion people will be watching. That’s why all the celebrities have to shoot botox into their arm pits to keep from sweating…did you know they do that? Maybe not all of them, but definitely some of them (the excessively sweaty ones). And you thought they just shot in their faces, right? Someone told me that botox was originally used for migraines, but then they noticed this great side effect that paralyzes the muscles in your face and smooths out wrinkles! Muscle paralysis? Scary! No wrinkles? Yay!  I don’t get migraines and I don’t sweat excessively, so if I ever get botox it will be for my frown line that I’ve developed from being aggravated all the time. I work with a couple people who’ve had botox injections at lunch. Talk about an LA stereotype! Personally, I’d rather stuff a sandwich in my mouth during my lunch break than have a needle stuck in my face. But that’s me.

Moving on…

Today is the big category, “Best Picture.” Nine movies are nominated and I don’t really get this number. It used to be five, then they changed it to ten, and I know they struggle to think of ten good movies a year, but now nine? Weird.

zeroAnyway, I’ve seen four of the nine movies that are nominated and I’ll say that I want Argo to win. Out of the four I’ve seen, this onelincoln kept me the most engaged. It was suspenseful, the writing was good, and I thought Ben Affleck did a great job directing, but I amourguess Hollywood thought otherwise. Sorry Ben. I liked Lincoln, but it did drag a bit at certain parts. I think I spaced out a couple of times. You know, when you’re staring at the screen but thinking djangoabout something else. It happens to me constantly during sports games. Django Unchained was good, but I didn’t love it and I really liked Silver Linings Playbook but I still liked Argo better. I like movies that are based on true stories and I love suspense, so that is more fun for me to watch. Therefore, I cast my vote for Argo.

1. What is your Oscar prediction for “Best Picture”?

2. Lincoln
3. Silver Linings Playbook
4. Life of Pi
5. Zero Dark Thirty
6. Les Miserables
7. Django Unchained
8. Beasts of the Southern Wild
9. Amour

2. Have you seen any of the nominated movies? If so, what ones?

Bonus question

3. If you were to win an Oscar for anything; acting, directing, writing, sound editing, costumes, cinematography, makeup, music etc., and had to give a speech, would you hold it together or would you become a wreck to the point of  needing to be slapped?

Watch this…it is funny on so many levels. Everything from Renee Zellwegger’s and Nicole Kidman’s feigned happiness to the absolute hysterics of Halle Berry.

Contest Rules:

Each day there will be two Oscar-related questions. Post your answers in the comment section. Each comment is an entry into the giveaway. At the end of the week a winner will be chosen at random. The contest will conclude on Saturday 2/23. You get extra entries for posting Death to Hollywood on Facebook or Twitter, and “liking” the Death to Hollywood page on Facebook.

1. You have to be at least 18 years old to enter (that’s for legal reasons)

2. You have to live in the United States because I don’t ship internationally, sorry.

3. You have to answer two Oscar related questions as a comment on the blog.

4. It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen any of the nominated movies.

5. No purchase necessary (not that there’s anything to buy… legally I have to say it)

Comment to win and have a great Friday!!

About Death To Hollywood

My name is Celeste Donohue and I am a writer/comedian who started this blog to tell stories about my life growing up in a funeral home and my adult life which I have spent in Hollywood, California – hence the name, “Death To Hollywood”. Hopefully, you like to read those kinds of stories. If not, go read something serious and boring.....

  1. Mary says:

    1. Argo
    2. Argo, Lincoln
    3. no chance of that ever happening so I never even thought about it!

I can’t wait to see who wins this contest – it has been the only sanity this week!

  2. Theresa says:

    And no, not a one!

  3. Josephine says:

    1. Argo/Lincoln I can’t decide.
    2. No, unfortunately.
    3. No way you could even drag me on stage but if I were teleported there against my will, I would probably hold it together for a few minutes and then just leave because I don’t like public speaking.

  4. George Monkey says:

    1. Argo

    2. No. But you know what’s good — “Billy Jack.” I always watch that every year.

    3. I would be a beacon of light to the generations. Unless somebody played music to tell me to shut up … I consider that quite rude.

  5. mary donohue says:

I think Lincoln will win,and I also vote for Les Miz.Also, why didn’t Halle Berry have any tears? I would have someone else give my acceptance speech.Love,Mom.Good luck to all the nominees.I saw both movies, and I will see Argo at some point.

  6. Kal says:

    1. Lincoln…

    2. …which is the only nominated picture I’ve seen.

    3. I don’t think I’d fall apart, because i wouldn’t be up there for long. When it comes to public speaking, I try to follow the matchlessly pithy advice of Franklin D. Roosevelt: “Be sincere, be brief, be seated.”

  7. Kris says:

    1. Argo
    2. Argo, Lincoln, Les Mis, Silver Linings, Zero Dark Thirty
    3. I would need to be slapped, I would say thank you, cry and run off stage:)

I must say, there were some good movies this year. I agree with you about Lincoln…got a little sleepy for me.
Can’t wait to see the outfits on Sunday and make fun of people…yay!

  8. Paul J. says:

    1. Argo…fuck yourselves, unworthy nominees
    2. Yes, all of them. Lincoln would be my second choice, except for the cop-out ending
    3. If I ever won, I’d say thank you and leave, short and sweet

  9. AnnaZed says:

Argo will take best picture; I think this chiefly because *Ben thinks this (see earlier post about the science of Ben). I would give it to ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ but I am from Louisiana and you need to always make allowances for that is conversing with me (always and on all topics).

I have seen all of these films except ‘Amour’ and that’s only because I couldn’t coordinate it. I am an old-school spend-20%-of-your-disposable-income-on-movies style film buff.

In the highly unlikely scenario where I am being fêted and awarded by a world-wide audience of millions (that is highly unlikely on the second miracle at Lourdes scale, just to be clear) for my work (say baking or something) I would be the blubbering mess though usually I am noted for my arch chilliness and imperious cool.

  10. Y says:

    1. Beasts of the Southern Wild because it’s an interesting title.
    2. Nope!
    3. Cool as a cucumber.
