3rd Annual Death to Hollywood Oscar Giveaway Contest – Day 3

oscrHello Players!

So far, it looks fairly unanimous that Cate Blanchett will walk away with the Oscar for Best Actress. But will the Oscar prediction for Best Actor be just as unanimous? Well, we will see….

1. Who is your Oscar prediction for Best Actor?

Christian Bale – American Hustle

Bruce Dern – Nebraska

Leonardo DiCaprio – The Wolf of Wall Street

2. Matthew McConaughey reportedly lost about 45 pounds over the course of  four months for Dallas Buyers Club. I would think getting paid millions of dollars (or whatever he got), and the chance of winning an Oscar, would be good motivation  for losing weight. How much weight do you think you could lose if you ate nothing but $100 dollar bills for 4 months?

100

My 2 cents: I saw all of these performances except Bruce Dern in Nebraska and I think this is going to be a tight race, which is good because last year it was a total runaway with Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln, so no one else had a chance. But this year, there is  a bit of competition. I thought Leonardo DiCaprio was great in The Wolf of Wall Street, and he has a good shot since he won a Golden Globe. Then there is McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club, and, by the way, when did he learn how to act? He was excellent and lost all that weight, etc., so I was very impressed and he usually doesn’t impress me. Christian Bale was really good in American Hustle, but he won’t win, so let’s move on. Chiwetel Ejiofor also was amazing in 12 Years A Slave but I think that is  going to get some other awards, and Bruce Dern also has a good chance because he won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival, so….this will be a good one! Yay! However, I think McConaughey is favored to win. And if he does, he better not make some douchey speech!

Bonus question:

Who is your Oscar prediction for Best Supporting Actor?

Barkhad Abdi – Captain Phillips

Bradley Cooper  – American Hustle

Michael Fassbender -12 Years A Slave

Jonah Hill – The Wolf of Wall Street

Jared Leto – Dallas Buyers Club

I saw all of these performances and although I would like to see Michael Fassbender win because I have a big crush on him,  Jared Leto was surprisingly great as a tranny in Dallas Buyers Club, so I’m going with him for the win!

I guess I should’ve done Best Supporting Actress on yesterday’s post, but oh well, it’s too late now. I think Jennifer Lawrence or Julia Roberts will win, but just for shits and giggles, feel free to put your 2 cents in.

Sally Hawkins  – Blue Jasmine

Jennifer Lawrence – American Hustle

Lupita Nyong’o – 12 Years a Slave

Julia Roberts – August: Osage County

June Squibb – Nebraska

About Death To Hollywood

I am a writer/comedian that was kind of pressured into doing a blog. I didn't really know much about blogs which is why I resisted. But now that I have one, I still don't know much about them. I like to tell funny stories that are true. Hopefully, you like to read those kinds of stories. If not, go read something serious and boring.....

  1. meg says:

i have to abstain from best actor, but you have to love philly boy bradley cooper for supporting actor and the girl from 12 years a slave for supporting actress because she can seriously rock a dress on the red carpet.

  2. Susie says:

Cee – Hope that you are warmer than we are here in Philly!
Best Actor – would like to see Matthew McConaughey win, put pretty sure that it will be Chiwetel Ejiofor
Best Supporting Actor – Hope its Bradley Cooper, but it will go to Barkhad Abdi
Bonus – Best Supporting Actress – Julia Roberts

  3. Jimmy! says:

    1) Matthew McConaughey – “Allright, Allright, Allright.”

    2) If I ate nothing but Ben Franklin, I’d be an 18th century French whore, and I just can’t see myself in that role.

    3) I am really annoyed with Michael Fassbender — his fame has made it much tougher for me to seek information and buy films from Amazon from my favorite German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. I know few people weep over “The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant” — but Fassbender should change his name to appease the fans of German cinema.

I mean, Peter Saarsgard made up his name just to kiss up to the people that like to talk like Pirates. And he ended up with that “Secretary” chick.

    4) But my pick for best supporting actor is Jared Leto. I thought he was a good actor ever since I saw him play Mark David Chapman (John Lennon’s assassin) in a small film several years ago. I also don’t mind his music. He should also win because when he dresses up as a woman — he looks exactly like one of the local female newscasters where I live.

    5) Lupita Nyong’o is my pick for best supporting actress. I would like to say however that I don’t approve of apostrophes in names since we are now in the middle of a global shortage. There are so many people on the Internets who don’t have the money to buy an apostrophe and have to say “your” when they mean “you’re.”

Now, don’t get me started on Julia Roberts. Recently, she has been accused of bullying her half-sister (about her weight) to a point where she then commited suicide. I’ve hated most of her movies and have never found her attractive. And I was always such a big fan of her brother, Eric Roberts, that I think you could take his work from any of three of his ’80s films (Star 80, The Pope of Greenwich Village, The Coca-Cola Kid) and I find it to be more substantial and meaningful than the sum total of Julia Roberts’ entire career.

    • Josephine says:

You are correct about the apostrophes, but apparently there is a surplus of o’s as evidenced by the use of loose for lose. 🙂

  4. Brian says:

    1. Matthew McConaughey
    2. I’d die of starvation
    3. Jared Leto

  5. Mel says:

    1. Matthew McConaughey for Magic Mike
    2. He probably lost years of his life by starving himself for that role. Isn’t that how Tom Hanks got diabetes?
Bonus-Best supporting actor- I hope Barkhad Abdi, but I think Jared Leto – Dallas Buyers Club will win.
Bonus Bonus- Sally Hawkins – Blue Jasmine

  6. Kal says:

    Lots of questions today!

1: Leonardo DiCaprio. Because he was good, and because he’s got name recognition.

2: None. I’d simply palm the hundred-dollar bill, and — if there are spotters watching to ensure I’m eating money — switch it for a one. Then, after having eaten the one, I’d use the hundred to buy some real food.

3: Barkhad Abdi. He’s a first-time actor and an underdog, and the Academy loves that kind of story. (See Dr. Haing S. Ngor, best supporting actor, 1985)

4: Lupita Nyong’o. Jennifer and Julia will split the conservative Academy voters, and Lupita will come up the middle for the win!

  7. Josephine says:

Chiwetel Ejiofor, although it was strongly split with Matthew McConaughey. I could not put money in my mouth, so I guess I would lose all of it. Jared Leto for best supporting actor. Lupita Nyong’o, best supporting actress.

  8. Kris says:

This is way too much for me to deal with tonight, but here it goes:

    1. I think Chewitel E. will win, but Matt Mc. was excellent in Dallas Buyers Club!
    2. Hmmm….hundred dollar bills for four months must be an Atkins kind of diet, so maybe 45 lbs 🙂
    3. Barkhad will probably win, but Jared was excellent! Want him to win.
    4. Jennifer L.

  9. Best Actor – Bruce Dern for Nebraska and also due to his body of work in many other films and never receiving an Oscar.
Best Supporting Actor – Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club. Supporting Actor category is usually given for something unique.
Best Supporting Actress – Sally Hawkins in Blue Jasmine

  10. Paul e says:

    matty mac best actor
    jared best support actor
    sally best support actress

  11. pishelle says:

Best Actor – As much as I’m rooting for Matthew McConaughey, I think DiCaprio will finally get his Oscar.
Best Supporting Actor – Jared Leto hands down!
Best Supporting Actress – JLaw will win, but I think Lupita deserves it!
