3rd Annual Death to Hollywood Oscar Giveaway Contest – Day 5

oscrHappy Friday Hollywood players! We are getting closer to Hollywood’s Biggest Night!

Today is the big day because it’s “Best Picture” Day.  I’m just gonna come out with it; I think 12 Years A Slave will take home this award. Did you see it? Are you white? Did it make you feel embarrassed to be white? I hope so! I totally like being white….until I watch a slave movie, then I suddenly feel guilty by association.

It was pretty rough to sit through, especially since it’s based on a true story, but then again, I can’t say any slave movie has ever been easy to sit through. What we have done to each other as humans throughout history is so disturbing and disgusting, that I think we should just move on to the other movies….hope I didn’t bring you down.  Happy Friday, remember?

1. What is your Oscar Prediction for “Best Picture”?

American Hustle

bale(liked it, but not Best Picture)

Captain Phillips

(this was a nail-biter) 🙂

12 Years A Slave

12 yr

(you’ll only need to see this once)

Dallas Buyers Club

(good but sad too)

her(didn’t see it, but I heard it’s great)

(I’ll wait for DVD)

(On my Netflix list)

(I have no idea what this is even about)

The Wolf of Wall Street

(Liked it A LOT)

Can I just say that comedies hardly every get nominated for awards and that sucks because when you think about it, comedies makes us feel so much better than these intense dramas. Think about it; what would make you feel better, Anchorman 2 or 12 Years a Slave? There’s Something About Mary or Schindler’s List? Dumb and Dumber or A Requiem for a Dream?  Just sayin’……

2. If someone wrote a movie about you called “12 Years a _____”, what would the blank say?

The Rules:

Each day there will be two Oscar-related questions. Post your answers in the comment section. Each comment is an entry into the giveaway. At the end of the week a winner will be chosen at random. The contest will conclude on Saturday 3/1. You get extra entries for posting Death to Hollywood on Facebook or Twitter, and “liking” the Death to Hollywood page on Facebook. The prize is always a surprise and Hollywood/Oscar related.

1. You have to be at least 18 years old to enter (that’s for legal reasons)

2. You have to live in the United States because I don’t ship internationally, sorry.

3. You have to answer two Oscar related questions as a comment on the blog.

4. It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen any of the nominated movies or if you get the questions right.

5. No purchase necessary (not that there’s anything to buy… legally I have to say it)

About Death To Hollywood

My name is Celeste Donohue and I am a writer/comedian who started this blog to tell stories about my life growing up in a funeral home and my adult life which I have spent in Hollywood, California – hence the name, “Death To Hollywood”. Hopefully, you like to read those kinds of stories. If not, go read something serious and boring.....

  1. Gina says:

Celeste, thanks for entering me in your contest. Hope I win sumpin! 😉

If someone wrote a movie about me, it would be called “12 Years a Cart Tart” cuz I’ve been driving a beer cart on the golf course as my seasonal job for that long. Still waiting to get that “REAL” job one day. Don’t hold your breath.

Or it could be “12 Years a Catholic School Girl” since my parents sent all 10 of us kids to the nuns (with their rulers!!) for a good education. (Even went to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron like LeBron James….a “couple three” years before he went, of course!)

Or it could be “12 Years Since I Last Ironed Anything”…..or had a red-hot lover like you read about…..or wrote an acceptance speech for my Best Original Screenplay Oscar based on the book I wrote based on my life……which, based on my lack of self-discipline, procrastination and laziness, has yet to be written. But it’s all up here in my noggin, once I sweep away the bong fog! Really it is!

Anyway, fun contest. See you at the movies!

    Aloha, Gina

  2. Paul e says:

    I think Philomena will win…
    and 12 years a saint?

  3. Kal says:

    1. The Wolf Of Wall Street

    2. 12 Years A Pre-Teen.

  4. Josephine says:

Twelve Years A Slave. Yes, I feel guilty and frustrated when I see these movies but I would feel better if I thought we were making more progress. After 6 years of Obama and all the crappola sent in his direction (racist stuff not political stuff per se) I see we have a long way to go. Maybe more movies would help, right?

Twelve Years A-sleep if it were made about me, lol.

  5. Kris says:

    1. 12 Years a Slave…..and yes I felt embarrassed for our people that treated other human beings so inhumanely! It disgusted me!!!

    2. 12 Years a Good Time 🙂

    TGIF….make it a great one!

  6. Susie says:

1- 12 years a slave…yes it is a horrible legacy HOWEVER, if you review the history …its not just white people who ruled or created the slave biz (and I am going back years)….remember the Egyptians and the Jew just to name a few. So I thing the whole human race has to look at ourselves and repent! Let the people go or something like that

    2- 12 years a smart ass 🙂
    (think you can relate Cee)

  7. Jimmy! says:

    1) “12 Years a Slave” is my pick although I like the idea of Clooney (Best work was in “Facts of Life”) and Bullock (never made a good film) stranded in deepest space.

    2) Did you see “12 Years a Salve?” It was a documentary about expired Neosporin.

    3) What does the blank say? Probably some sort of “Ding-ding-ding-ding-dingda-ding-ding-da-ding.” I used to live in Norway and I don’t even understand their pop music.

    4) Two tips on music in Norway:

    a) DO NOT refer to A-ha as a one-hit wonder. They are like Norwegian Springsteen.

    b) DO NOT ask where the ABBA is on the jukebox! They are SWEDISH and the Norwegians blame the Swedish for EVERYTHING. And knowing me, knowing you, there is nothing we can do.
